CEELRT.lt suffers cyberattack, operations not disrupted
LRT.lt has suffered a cyber-attack aimed at disrupting the work of the Lithuanian public broadcaster’s news website.
The cyber-attack started on Sunday and intensified on Monday, said Ričardas Baltaduonis, head of the Internet Department at LRT. “At the beginning, the attack seemed to be of a normal scale, which happens quite often, and users don’t even notice it, as we usually deal with it. The intensity of the attack doubled in the early hours of Monday morning, and doubled again in the afternoon, which is why the website’s readers may have seen error messages,” he explained. The attack was eventually stopped and the damage prevented, but it is not clear whether it will not happen again. LRT has previously identified cyber-attacks as one of the most serious risks for its operations and various measures have been taken to prevent such attacks from halting the website. LRT pays particular attention to ensuring that its operations are not interrupted under any circumstances, as the public broadcaster is the first source of information in the event of any kind of emergency.
